Embracing Pain, Avoiding Suffering: A Mindful Approach to Attracting Wealth

A young woman sits holdg her head in pain amidst piles of money and stocks and shares.

What is pain? And how does it differ from suffering?

Knowing the answer to this question is helpful if you are an aspiring entrepreneur striving to attract wealth into your life or business. Your mind can generate unnecessary suffering if you allow it to roam like a wild horse. Mindfulness can help you get control of your thoughts so that you can avoid suffering.

Pain is an inevitable part of life. There are many types for those in business: the pain of failure, financial setbacks, legal challenges and many more. But suffering is an additional layer of negative emotions and mental anguish that arises from resisting pain.

An example from daily life might help. Imagine that you fall down and damage your ankle. It swells up and causes a great deal of physical pain and immobilizes you, so the ordinary chores of everyday life become either impossible or a burden. Then the doctor informs you that your ankle is badly broken and you will need to elevate your leg for two months and wear a plaster cast. Now, we can look at what the mind tends to do in such a situation.

After this physical injury is sustained and pain attacks and undermines you, what does the mind do? It tends to take an authoritative, scolding role in the following way:

  • blaming – either someone, the environment the accident happened in, or yourself
  • getting angry – either with yourself or your actions
  • being deeply disappointed – becoming a victim of these debilitating circumstances, which are bound to spoil your chances of making your dreams come true.

Your mind chooses to suffer on top of the pain you are feeling. The mind and only the mind generates suffering. Unfortunately, this negative burst of emotion after the accident will worsen things. Our thoughts shape our reality, so if we allow these negative emotions to overpower us, the Law of Attraction will reflect it back into our lives. This will cause more to go wrong and perhaps even more pain.

In the above scenario, the response to your physical pain involves allowing your thoughts to run riot. This indicates the importance of taking full responsibility for our thoughts and emotions, refraining from self-blame or resentment towards others or inanimate objects, and releasing expectations that lead to disappointment. Suffering is a choice, along with imagining that you are a victim of whatever happens to you. This mindset will not sustain your journey in the business world. Pain is inevitable – things will not always go the way you have planned – but suffering is completely optional.

How can we resist suffering and fully embrace pain?

Staying with pain using your senses and tenderness – your compassion towards yourself – may be difficult because many of us are consumed by anger, which we may vent in this situation. So, it is important to address the underlying cause of this anger through mindful practices such as meditation, reflection journaling, or simply developing the skill of observing our thoughts without judging them. As mentioned above and in other articles on this site, we must transmit exclusively positive thoughts into the Universe to attract wealth and other good things. This attraction isn’t random or due to luck or good fortune. It is directly a reflection of your thoughts. You are the centre of the Universe, and every thought you have has a result or effect.

My mentor, multi-millionaire Michael Cheney, worked for 25 years to find the secrets of his success. He experimented with many methods and sought advice from successful millionaires for many years before his own success happened. He never gave up, even when times were bad, but resisted self-blaming by believing he could be successful. Self-belief kept him going. Eventually, he could resist heaping suffering onto the pain of failure and despair, and the results were reflected back to him. He is quite a spiritual man but stays quiet about it, and his lifestyle as a family man without the need for unnecessary extravagance demonstrates this. To generate only positive thoughts and emotions which create your days, each day it is important to cultivate a certain mindset as follows:

Gratitude – as you wake up, think about and feel gratitude for everything around you and further afield – the Earth, the infinite sky, the ample oceans of the world, oxygen, etc. – everything that you already have to make your existence possible. Read: Mastering Gratitude: The Core Of Your Success

Using words to affirm – repeat them again and again throughout the day:

“I am the ruler of my Mind.”

“My mind generates 100% positive thoughts which spark positive emotions like happiness, joy, well-being, etc.”

“Everything I think for the day ahead will be. in place.”

“I am whole, perfect, strong, powerful, loving, harmonised and happy.”

  1. I think setbacks and even failures can become really debilitating, especially when it comes to making money.

We have been kind of programmed from a young age that our whole identity is what we do in life and how much money we make.

I also think that pain and suffering produce the stages of grief sometimes too especially when it’s something that is out of our control.

How we choose to think about things matters and monitoring those thoughts has to be a constant thing in order to stay in a more positive mindset.

    • This is interesting Lynn. Thank you.

You’re right about conditioned status: breaking out of our second-hand life is critical to success. We have to stop sacrificing ourselves for the sake of society. No one can succeed for anyone else!

I hope you can try these ancient trie-and-tested techniques when you encounter hurdles. Negative self-talk is debilitating, so mindful practice is essential to quieten that down.

Blessings and positivity to you! You can break free of all these stereotypes of who you are! You are the ruler of your Mind, and you do have choices. Please repeat the affirmations in the mindful practices, e.g.

“I am the ruler of my mind.”

“I am whole, perfect, strong, powerful, loving, harmonised and happy.”

“All power is within and therefore under our control.”

  2. I think your observations are excellent. For many years I have followed the teachings of Bob Proctor and he came to the same conclusions as you. My problem is that although I am a strong believer in everything you have written, I find it difficult to stay positive every day. Some days I visualize a new lifestyle just as you suggest, while on other days my mind drifts to more negative thoughts. The result is that I often stand still, Have you any thoughts or suggestions to overcome this problem, please?

    • Hi Pickwick Publishing,

Good to hear from you here. Thank you so much for your admiring comments. Yes, Bob Proctor is an inspiration.

I think you are too much in your head. Believing is for the birds, frankly. Knowing these things, actually experiencing them, is all about your heart!  As Bob Proctor often says, you need to feel the thought you have created right down in your boots. For example, “I am whole, and I am perfect.” Say the words loudly in silence to yourself and then visualise yourself as a perfect being with no single flaw linking Heaven and Earth. Noble! Miraculous! A feat of evolution! Only your mind is holding you back! So, open your heart and take the plunge – you can move wholesale into that ‘new lifestyle’ as you call it. What have you got to lose?

You need to do 6 weeks of mindful practice and let some tears flow – both joy and sadness. I would also suggest that you step into the limelight and start to live a First-Hand Life asap.

Let me know how you get on! You have everything you need for stunning success right inside you!

      Blessings and a million insights!
